Original Drawing - Charles Kiffer

Original drawing of a dog by the famous French artist Charles Kiffer (1902 - 1992). The sketch has Kiffer's cachet de l'atelier (artists stamp) on the front, is in good condition and mounted in a recent gold frame. It dates from around 1930 - 1930.

Kiffer is famous for his sketches of actors and performers many of which became posters. One of he most famous posters is of Maurice Chevalier.
From 1918 he attended the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. He illustrated many of the publicity posters for stars like George Guetary (1933), Charles Trenet, Edith Piaf (1936) and Bridgette Bardot. During the second World War he was engaged by the French airforce to paint camouflage for the aircraft. After the war he resumed his work of drawing the stars and theatre scenes from Paris - including many decorations for the Casino de Paris. He continued to live in Paris until his death in 1992.
