Bronze Sculpture of a Dog 19th Century

French bronze sculpture of a shooting dog by the famous sculptor Jules Moigniez. The bronze is in excellent condition and has a good patina. Signed at the rear.

Jules Moigniez (1835 - 1894) was a French animal sculptor who worked during the 19th century. His mainly cast in bronze and he frequently exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon. He was best known for his bronzes depicting birds but his skill as a sculptor enabled him to produce some stunning dog and horse sculptures as well as hunting scenes. He was one of the leading animals culptors of his time

Over the course of forty years, Moigniez exhibited thirty works at the Salon in Paris between 1855–92. His first submission in a major art exhibition was his plaster, Pointer Stopping at a Pheasant, at the Exposition Universal in 1855. Moigniez was known for the fine detail and chiseling of his sculptures.
