Flowers On A Table - Antique Oil Painting

Oil on canvas by the Belgium artist Juliette Cambier (1879 - 1963) mounted in a wooden gilt frame It is signed by the artist and is dated 1957. It shows a pair of vases of flowers on a table with a hat.
Juliette Cambier (1879 - 1963) was a Belgian painter and married to the painter Louis Cambier. She studied in Brussels and on the advice of her cousin Octave Maus went on to study in Paris at the Académie Ranson. Here she receives lessons from M. Denis, P. Sérusier and E. Vuillard. In 1913 she made her debut with the artists' association 'Libre Esthétique'. During the First World War, she and her husband stayed in the south of France where she was in contact with Matisse, Renoir and Signac. she is known for a paintings of floral still lifes, landscapes and portraits of girls. Her work looks fresh, impressionistic and leans towards Fauvism. Her work is represented in the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp and the Museum in Elsène.
