Fishing Boats on a Beach - Antique Oil

Large oil on canvas signed Michel Van Cuyck (1797-1875) showing a vie of fishing boats and fishermen and women on a beach. The painting is signed by the artist an mounted in a recent frame and slip.

Michel Van Cuyck was a Flemish artist who attended the Bruges academy in 1820 and was one of the founders of the school of 'Teken en Bouwkunde' in Ostende. He taught perspective drawing until 1874 and was more widely known for his paintings of beaches in Belgium, France and Scotland as well as watercolours. He made a portrait of Queen Louise-Marie on her deathbed in Ostend. He has works in several museums
