Cows in Meadow - Belgium School

Lovely oil on canvas by listed Belgium artist Jef Dutillieu (1876 - 1960).
The oil canvas is of exceptional quality and is in excellent condition. It is mounted in a superb moulded frame.

Jef Dutillieu came from a large family and due to financial reasons by the age of 13 he was employed as a gilder and sculptor. For fifteen years he attended classes at the art academy of St Gilles and the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. His exhibition debut was in 1906 at the salon in Ghent and then in 1911 he participated with five colleagues in an exhibition in Uccle.

After the First World War he devoted his time to painting faces from the 'Devastated Regions' as well as the ruined towns and villaged of the Westhoek. In 1926 Dutillieu was appointed Knight of the Order of the Crown. He has works in the museums of Uccle, Ostend and the Museum of Military history. His paintings reach high prices at Auction.
