View of a Village - Belgium School

Large oil on canvas by the Belgium artist Paul Hagemans (1884-1959) showing and interesting view of a village with doves taking flight in the foreground. The painting is mounted in a quality frame and dates from around 1920 -1930.

Hagemans was born in Antwerp in 1884 and died in Uccle in 1959. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Brussels with Isidore Verheyden and Hermen Richer. His career was varied and he was interested in oils, watercolors and lithography. He also worked on the stained glass windows of the Port au Prince Cathedral in Haiti. Hagemans came from a long line of painters, including his father and brother. He is listed in the Dictionary of Belgium painters and achieves good prices at auction.
