View of a Village - Antique Oil Painting

Oil on panel showing a view of a village signed by the artist Xavier - in 1869 in Liège - died in 1933. The painting is mounted in a simple wooden frame. The painting dates from the late 19th century/early 20th century.

Xavier Wurth was a painter of landscapes and portraits. From 1889 - 1893 he was a student of A de Witte and Carpentier at the Academy of Fine Arts of Liège. Wurth was also a friend of R Heintz and A Sirtaine, often painting in their company in their company. I n 1897, he exhibited with them at the circle of fine arts of Liège. From 1900 to 1914, he painted the Ardennes and particularly the valleys of the Ourthe and Amblève. He later became professor of drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège. From 1924 illness hampered his work. He exhibited annually in the circle of fine arts of Liège. He distinguished himself as popular landscape artist, particularly his painting of the Ardennes rivers.
