Woodland in Autumn - Antique Oil Painting

Oil on wooden panel by signed by the Belgium painter Joseph Caron. The painting is in excellent condition and is mounted in an attractive wooden gilt frame.

Joseph Caron (Brussels 1866-1944) was a draftsman and painter, known mainly for his representation of forests, landscapes and portraits,

Caron followed a technical training and followed the "decorative drawing" course at the Brussels Academy. Jean-Baptiste Degreef, a representative of the second generation from the School of Tervuren , gave him training in painting landscapes. As a result, he painted, in his early years, often in the style of the Barbizon School. He was familiar with the works of these French painters and certainly with those of Narcisse Diaz de la Pena ,

He later adopted a more impressionist style and he painted with a generous palette and are characterized by the use of light and form in a quest for autumn colors. He often painted landscapes and forest views in the forest of Soignies and the forest around Fontainebleau. He also painted city views and charming animated scenes. Many summers he painted in Weert on the Scheldt near Bornem. Caron was also an art critic and reviewer for the Brussels magazine "De Belgische Ster".

He gave his first exhibition at the Société Libre des Beaux-Arts in Brussels in 1899,
In 1903: exhibition "in the" Galerie royale "in Brussels, together with J. Impens and L. Frank. [1]
He exhibited in 1925 in the "Galeries du Studio", in a special exhibition, "Flanders and the Forest of Fontainebleau".

He has participated in several exhibitions and his work is mainly in private collections, but he also has a painting in the Museum Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.
