Approach to a French Village - 19th Century

Lovely large atmospheric oil on canvas showing a view of a rural French village. The canvas is signed by the listed artist Albert Dakin Gihon (1866 - 1950) and has superb tones and a wonderful depiction of the light.

Albert Dakin Gihon was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (USA) and died in France in 1950. He has a work in the Louvre which was purchased for the Museum of Luxembourg for an exhibition of Gihon. He also exhibited at the Galerie Knoedler, Paris in 1921.
